So, I got Ōkami as a gift (which I am deliriously happy about), and it has definitely rekindled my love of Japanese mythology and folklore and feudal stories.

So! I am looking to expand my manga collection (which I’m really always trying to do), and I’m hoping some of my followers and random anon passersby have some suggestions. I’ll take single volume “one shots”/compilations of tales, or series (completed or ongoing, makes no nevermind to me). I found one that looked really promising—Ugetsu Monogatari—except it’s only in Japanese, and who knows if it’ll be translated. I have all of Inuyasha, so you can skip that suggestion, but I’m looking for historical fiction, historical, mythologies, folklores, paranormal…. Or hell, just any good manga series if you don’t know any that fit into those categories.

  • Somehow, I always end up on the UK version of sites—I apparently have a wishlist on Amazon.uk, and when looking for Lord of the Rings book sets, I somehow ended up on Abebooks.uk
  • Believe it or not, as huge a medieval fantasy fan/buff as I am, I actually have not read the whole LotR books—only the Hobbit and the first half or so of Fellowship. This is mostly because I only own the Hobbit (and the Samirillion, from places unknown), and never had my own copies of the main books.
  • I just ordered a set of 1987 hardcover copies of LotR on Sunday, and it just came today from MA, and I am utterly astonished at the expediency.
  • There goes all the writing I had in mind to do today.
  • Also, it’s officially fall in my heart because I got the first jug of spiced apple cider and heated it up yesterday.

Why I love being a writer: reason 674

When I work on my Arthurian legend trilogy, I get to do heavy heavy research into Welsh mythology (in addition to Arthurian, obviously).  I get to see and read in-depth theories about the intrinsic connection between the myths to probable real history of ancient times and people.


So glorious. Why can’t all my independent research be put toward a degree in this? I do it anyway.

Have you ever been listening to a playlist, Pandora Station, the radio, etc and heard a song that reminded you of a very particular point in your life? Not just reminded you, but really tugged at you, like it was closing its fist around your memory.

It’s been a long and very weird year for me. A lot of ups and downs. Many really good points, and a lot of really bad ones. I heard a song come up in my shuffle playlist, and it was one of those songs. So I’m making a list of all the months of the year, and how those songs have fit into my incredibly polarized year.
